Seas Of Data

By Edward Wilson

About.

Hi, I’m Edward Wilson, a marine biologist and early-career bioinformatician passionate about uncovering patterns in nature through data. My research focuses on population genomics, ecological resilience, and the use of advanced bioinformatic tools to understand marine biodiversity across spatial and environmental gradients.

I hold an MRes in Marine Biology (Distinction) from the University of Plymouth, where my thesis explored adaptive variation in the honeycomb worm Sabellaria alveolata using a seascape genomics approach. My work spans molecular lab techniques and high-performance computing—developing custom pipelines for RADseq analysis, environmental association, and functional gene annotation.

Alongside field and lab research, I’ve contributed to international projects on marine heatwaves, kelp forest ecology, and coastal aquaculture, including co-authoring a publication in Nature Communications. I’m experienced in R, Bash, Python, HPC environments, and open science workflows, and I’m committed to reproducible, collaborative research.

When not running scripts or sequencing samples, I enjoy science communication—whether through educational talks, guided aquarium tours, or citizen science projects that connect the public with life beneath the waves.
